The introduction to PSS has provided greater safety to our roads. As an operator in Greater London, you must be aware that a permit to drive a HGV will undergo significant changes in October 2024. As of October 2024 plan, vehicles will now need to be equipped with extra safety equipment such as having a PSS on every vehicle. 

The introduction of the latest technological advancements by PSS means that London operators will need to upgrade their current equipment to newer and more sophisticated technology, if necessary to the operator. It is estimated to cost around £1000.00 per vehicle to have a PSS installed. 

Make sure to check whether you will need to upgrade your equipment on your vehicles to have a PSS system in place, if you operate in London or Greater London.

Electric vehicles are set to become available in the UK within the next two years. Many truck manufacturers such as DAF, Iveco, MAN, Renault and more are looking to electrify their complete model ranges over time. This will result in manufacturers and operators reducing their carbon footprint. 

There is a need for cautious and gradual approach for the move to electric vehicles due to operational needs. The need for charging infrastructure for electric vehicles may pose potential challenges to the local electricity supply, necessitating coordination with the electricity supplier, depending on the number and sizes of vehicles involved.
